S/He is Still Her/e: The Official Genesis P-Orridge
Director David Charles Rodrigues’ latest film is an authorised documentary portrait of one of the most singular – yet profoundly plural – and tirelessly radical and influential artists of the 20th and 21st century, made during the final year of their life.
S/He Is Still Her/e interweaves archival footage of Genesis P-Orridge, the controversial performance artist who co-founded pioneering industrial music outfit Throbbing Gristle, with raw, reflective interviews conducted while wholly cognisant they hadn’t much longer to live. Expect appearances from William S. Burroughs – whose drawled advice to P-Orridge, “to short-circuit control”, became a lifelong credo – along with Brion Gyson, Timothy Leary and, of course, Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge, with whom Genesis realised the Pandrogyne art-and-life project, in which they ever strove to greater fuse their bodily selves and identities together, to create a transcendent “pandrogynous” whole.
