Duckweed + FILMMAKER Q&A
Unknown Pleasures and Dogmilk is excited to present the Australian premiere of Duckweed, the experimental feature film by UK based, Australian born, filmmaker Matthew Berka. A lyrical portrait of British writer Quentin S. Crisp’s work and its relationship to memory and space that questions a potential future beyond his current material existence. The film’s form responds to the Japanese literary style, zuihitsu, and is punctuated by Crisp’s own zuihitsu (the title of which the film’s name is borrowed from). Through Berka’s impressionistic lens, Duckweed moves through land and temporal scapes seemingly reflective of Crisp’s own mind, contesting with the ever increasing concern that a life devoted to art, spiritually satiating as it may be, need not amount to a life on the margins.
